2016 Model Senate
For this project, we were asked to write legislation, learn the finer details of how the actual US Senate works and simulate the process of passing legislation. Honor students, such as myself were given special roles to help run along. My senator was Patrick Leahy of Vermont, and I was a committe ranking member. This meant that I had a hand in scheduling the sessions, writing scripts for committee meetings, running committee meetings, writing silly fake bills and being a leader. We had three exhibitions/meetings. The first two were at school where we were supposed to debate bills and work to get them passed or not. My assingned committee was on immigration, and we battled a bill, that did make it to the final floor, with admendments from both parties. On the final exhibition, the entire class of 2017 debated these bills as our senators, but neither bill passed.
