If I were to
give advice to next year’s freshman I would first tell them that you should
make sure you know to research on the Internet properly. Effective research skills were vital in
having evidence that made clear sense to fellow delegates. It was very hard to
get your point across when you didn’t have strong evidence. If they would
really understand the process it would make the project a lot easier. I would
also suggest that every student really should try to understand their country’s
position in depth. Understanding your country’s position will make resolution
and amendment writing much more clear. It was very hard to write a resolution
when you didn’t have the exact position that your country was.
During the project I used advocacy the most, because I had to advocate for the Israeli people. I had to really make sure that each resolution had something for the Israeli people to cope with the changing situations. I had to write amendments to help the Israeli people and constantly talked with other delegates about what’s in it for the people of Israel. This worked well because I felt that we did a really good job with giving each side something that they wanted.
The greatest struggle with this project was the stress that it created. I tend a super stressed person with high anxiety so this project made some of it worst. I really made sure that I stopped and breathed when I needed to. I also found ways to convince myself that I could do it and rewarded myself when I did. At times I felt like I couldn’t do it and found myself completely discouraged. With the help of my wonderful teacher and parents I was able to get through the stress.
The most interesting resolution to me was the resolution by Iran (Derek). I was blown away by his regard to the Israeli people. I felt he did a great job of also helping not only his own people. I was interested in why then they could allow right of return then. It was interesting to see his perspective.
