I expressed the song on my painting by first listening to the song over and over again trying to visualize colors and connections to memories. I mostly used beat and rhythm to dictate what textures I used. For example the heavier bass parts of the song are represented by the blotting and dotting gray and white, and the woman's voice is shown through the soft and long blue streaks. My process of layering first began with blue drippings down the canvas, where then I layered multiple shades of red/pink. At one point I then layered a light blue over a lot of the pink, but I was not pleased with my work, and didn’t represent the song in the way I wanted to. I then blotted black and white sporadically around the canvas giving it a cloud like texture, which for some reason connects the song to myself. I then used small details, such as my lines and lyrics. I placed lyrics in, that are hard to read and match their background, because the lyrics are not the central points of the song. From the beginning this piece was very soft and passionate, without any texture that raised the paint off of the canvas, but now it has more texture. Although I’m not super stoked on it, I like it more than I would if i had continues to add colored washes over it. For this piece I wanted to convey a heavier, more late night feeling. I was hoping to convey the feeling of staying up all night, living life with a lot of passion, but not without regret or baggage.
